Wynnstay Arms
David Russell

We could do with more places like this in Great Little Places – honest-to-goodness country pubs where you’re not just a valued guest but have the chance to meet the locals. The Wynnstay Arms is the social hub of the village, with a busy bar, good choice of beers, games room and roaring open fireplaces. It’s also a popular place to eat, with good-value, wholesome food served in informal surroundings by your host David Russell. Dating from the late 17th century, this old coaching inn provides simple but comfortable accommodation to travellers. Those who do venture into this relatively undiscovered corner of Wales are well rewarded, with breathtaking sights like mountain-ringed Lake Vyrnwy and the spectacular waterfall of Pistyll Rhaeadr. The Wynnstay is also surrounded by wonderful walking, cycling and birdwatching countryside.
